Lindsay and I arrived back in Tulsa from a great Christmas in Virginia. We had plenty of time to check email and correspond but decided not to post much on our blogs. In the next few days, we'll share some cool videos and pictures to let you know how our "first Christmas" went.

Road Trip from Tulsa to Nashville to Richmond

crossing the Arkansas border...

...after the GINORMOUS ice storm that pelted Oklahoma the week prior, there were some wonderful people from the electric companies from so many wonderful states (like Louisiana, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, South Carolina); those men and women, thousands of them, cam to Oklahoma to help us out in our time of need. They sacrificed the comfort of their own homes and time with their families during the holidays to help my state out. That's what it is all about. Anyway, we passed some crews headed back to South Carolina while we were driving through Arkansas and Dale told me to make a sign, we rolled down the window and held it out; it said "Thank you for Helping Oklahoma! Merry Christmas!!" {the batteries ran out while taking this video...}

It was a beautiful Day ... at the Drive Inn.

Dale was a lil tired...

We were both very excited to see the movie...

Before the movie began, Admiral Twin Drive In has a very rivitting countdown and intro to the movies...probably the same one used in the 60s when they filmed The Outsiders there...or similar to the one in the background during John Travolta's ballad song in the movie, Grease. Anyways, it was very funny...I recorded a lil of it...but trust me, it doesn't give it justice! You should go and check it out yourself!! O and they play Mix96 on the movie's frequency before and between the movies....cool cool.

(I'll post the video of it when I get home!)

There was a really wierd preview (if you can call it that)...that everyone is talking about...it leaves whatever it is such a mystery that everyone is looking forward to January 18, 2008...although we don't know why. Yet.

Also on the Honeymoon we took a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. It a amazing...here a little footage from that...it's kindof loud, because of the helicopter, so be warned!!

The Grand Canyon is a very colorful, steep-sided gorge, carved by the Colorado River, in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of the Grand Canyon area, visiting on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.

The canyon, created by the Colorado River cutting a channel over millions of years, is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 0.25 to 15 miles 0.4 to 24 kilometers), and attains a depth of more than a mile (1.6 km). Nearly two billion years of the Earth's history has been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut through layer after layer of sediment as the Colorado Plateaus have uplifted.

The first recorded sighting of the Grand Canyon by a European was in 1540, García López de Cárdenas from Spain.[1] The Grand Canyon was largely unknown until after the U.S. Civil War. In 1869, Major John Wesley Powell, a one-armed Civil War veteran with a thirst for science and adventure, made a pioneering journey through the canyon on the Colorado River. He accomplished this with nine men in four small wooden boats, though only six men completed the journey. His party was, as far as we know, the first ever to make such a trip. Powell referred to the sedimentary rock units exposed in the canyon as "leaves in a great story book". Long before that, the area was inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon walls and its many caves.

Jerome is a town in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 343.

The area around what is now Jerome was mined for silver and copper since the Spanish colonial era when Arizona was part of New Spain.

A mining camp named Jerome was established atop "Cleopatra Hill" in 1883. It was named for Eugene Murray Jerome, a New York investor who owned the mineral rights and financed mining there. Eugene Jerome never visited his namesake town. Jerome was incorporated as a town on 8 March 1889. The town housed the workers in the nearby United Verde Mine, which was said to produce over 1 billion dollars in ore over the next 70 years.

Jerome was reincorporated as a city in 1899 and a building code specifying brick or masonry construction instituted to end the frequent fires that had repeatedly burned up sections of the town previously.

Jerome became a notorious "wild west" town, a hotbed of prostitution, gambling, and vice. On 5 February 1903, the New York Sun proclaimed Jerome to be "the wickedest town in the West".

In 1915 the population of Jerome was estimated at 2,500.

Starting in May of 1917 there was a series of miners strikes, in part organized by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). On 10 July of that year armed agents of the mine owners roughly rounded up all the labor union organizers and unionized miners on to railroad cattle cars, on 12 July letting them out near Kingman, Arizona after they were warned not to return to Jerome if they valued their lives. This incident is known as the Jerome Deportation.

In 1918 fires spread out of control over 22 miles of underground mines. This prompted the end of underground mining in favor of open pit mining. For decades dynamite was used to open up pits in the area, frequently shaking the town and sometimes damaging or moving buildings; after one blast in the 1930s the city jail slid one block down hill intact.

In the late 1920s Jerome's population was over 15,000.

In 1953 the last of Jerome's mines closed, and much of the population left town. Jerome's population reached a low point of about 50 people in the late 1950s.
